The industrial zone on Bowral’s Kirkham Road will be home to $500,000 luxurious new wellness centre after the development was given the green light.
City Cave Float and Wellness Centre will spend half a million dollars developing part of 63-69 Kirkham Rd to provide a comprehensive wellness experience, including float rooms with open pools.
A spokesperson for City Cave said they believe the centre will be the first of its kind in the Southern Highlands.
The centre will offer appointment-only sessions in float therapy in specially designed open pools filled with salt water, which promote healing. The development will also provide infrared saunas, remedial massage, and pilates classes for up to 18 people.
City Cave estimates the development of the new centre will cost $500,000, mostly on the custom fittings such as the pools. The development application emphasised that all development works will be internal, as the 63-69 Kirkham Rd building is already equipped for multi-business use.
The wellness centre plans to extend the current offerings of the building, which currently houses Angus and Lucinda’s Dance School, Harrington Kitchens, and F45 training gym.
F45 Membership Manager Brendon Li On Wing said City Cave consulted the gym before they submitted their DA.
“I think that we’ll be working together and putting packages together to support each other,” he said.
“It complements what we do.”
One of the two units in the building will become the City Cave Float and Wellness Centre and would have massage rooms, session recovery rooms, float pools, and sauna rooms.
The other unit would be turned into FS8, a pilates studio for classes of up to 18 people at a time. Despite the wellness centre proposing fitness classes, Mr Li On Wing said he doesn’t believe the two are in competition.
“I’m definitely excited for it. I think it’ll bring new business for both,” he said.
“If people come to pilates and want something more challenging, they can come to F45.”
The DA acknowledges Kirkham Rd is an area with “an emphasis on industrial activity”, but highlights the large number of parking spaces available to the centre because of the location.
Mr Li on Wing believes the spacious parking will be necessary when Southern Highlands residents hear about the wellness centre.
“I think it’ll be great for the community,” he said.
“The community will love to have the complementary offerings. You only have to come to one place.”
