An overnight incident on the Hume Highway saw a truck consumed in flames in the Southern Tablelands.
The B-double truck consisting of two semi-trailers caught on fire about 1am on Thursday, north of Gunning.
While the cause of the fire is not yet known, the truck was carrying a mixed load including aerosol cans that exploded from the extreme heat.
The driver managed to get out of the vehicle and separate the prime mover.
Crews from Yass and Goulburn Fire Stations attended to assist the Rural Fire Service for 2.5 hours to extinguish the blaze.
Police were also on scene.
The driver was not injured in the fire and therefore ambulance crews did not attend.
During this time, one southbound lane was closed off to traffic but is now back open.
Despite strong attempts by crews, both semi-trailers were destroyed in the incident.
Fire and Rescue NSW Acting Superintendent Mathew Sigmund said it was a timely reminder to call triple-0 in a fire emergency.
He said it “can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed”.
