Victims of a disgraced Southern Highlands teacher guilty of historical sex crimes against children have revealed the torment suffered at the hands of the Lakemba man.

A disgraced former Chevalier College teacher has been jailed for sexually abusing his students, as his victims grieved for the lives they never had due to the heinous assaults.

Brian Walter Napper was sentenced for his reign of terror at the Burradoo school which spanned several years in the late 1980s for three boys, all aged in their early teens.

The 75-year-old appeared in court via video link from custody after having his bail revoked following guilty pleas.

Agreed facts tendered in Goulburn District Court on Thursday laid out the horrific assaults these young men suffered at the hands of Napper.

Police say Napper, who was in his late 30s to early 40s at the time of the assaults, knew the boys while teaching at Chevalier College during his tenure from 1978 to 1992.

For one victim, the Lakemba man would indecently touch and assault him multiple times.

These assaults would be in the victim’s bedroom, in Napper’s car and on a bus.

The second victim was assaulted at Napper’s home where he would show him pornographic films, give him alcohol and sexually assault him.

He was also abused on school grounds.

In heartbreaking circumstances, the victim told his guardians of the abuse however was not believed.

A third boy was lured to his office where he was bear hugged, indecently touched and penetrated by the teacher.

In the facts the victim was able to break free and run from the paedophile.

Court documents state the victims did not disclose the horrific abuse for more than 20 years.

In court on Thursday, their trauma was laid bare through their victim impact statements read out by crown prosecutor Glenn Porter.

One victim said in his mind Napper still attacks him, and he turned to drugs and alcohol to numb the psychological pain he caused.

“It’s like a big snowball crashing down on me,” the victim wrote.

Another victim said they felt so much shame and pressure after the assaults and recalled the moment he told his mother of the abuse.

The third victim said he was unable to achieve anything in his life after being used by the disgraced teacher for his “sick” and “abnormal” offending.

“I grieve for the life I should’ve lived,” the statement read.

“I’m sad and I’m the loneliest I’ve ever been … I’ve lived without a soul.”

Defence barrister Hugh White said remorse was shown by his client, who was suffering from multiple medical issues.

In a letter tendered to the court, Napper said he failed dismally in his duty of care as a teacher, was filled with shame and apologised to the victims, their families and the community.

Judge Mark Williams said it was clear the assaults created adverse psychological consequences for the victims, which could be seen from their statements read in court.

Napper pleaded guilty to eight charges including several counts of sexual assault and homosexual intercourse – teacher of pupil and was jailed for four years and 10 months.

Napper will be eligible for parole on April 16, 2025.

Convictions were recorded.
