A former Southern Highlands private school teacher now faces more than 30 charges relating to the assault and abuse of three young boys in the 1980s.
Brian Walter Napper’s case was mentioned at Moss Vale Local Court on Monday. The 75-year-old has not yet entered pleas to the slew of charges which allegedly involve three former students from the 1980s.
The charges laid against him have risen from 16 to 32, with three of those in a separate matter. Mr Napper now faces 16 counts of indecent assault of a person under 16 and under the authority of offender, and five counts of homosexual intercourse with a male between 10 and 18.
He is further charged with six counts of assaulting and committing acts of indecency and five counts of inciting a person to commit an act of indecency.
According to police allegations contained in documents tendered to the court, the ex Chevalier College teacher committed the alleged acts in a six-month period between 1986 and 1989.
In one of the matters, 16 charges relate to one alleged offence against one victim between 1986 and 1988.
Police allege that Mr Napper, a Lakemba resident, sexually assaulted a teenage boy four times at an undisclosed location in the Mittagong area.
They claim that in 1986, Mr Napper twice stroked the student’s penis and twice masturbated him, an act which they allege he repeated the following year.
They further allege that the sexual assaults with the same boy were then escalated to sexual intercourse in 1987, and again the following year.
Mr Napper also faces a further 14 charges relating to a second alleged victim. Police claim that Mr Napper incited a 15-year-old student to commit masturbation and also that he masturbated the student five times.
In a separate matter relating to a third alleged victim, Napper has been charged with two counts of indecent assault of a person under his authority and homosexual intercourse with a pupil.
Police allege that Napper touched the genitalia of a 13-year-old student. They further allege that Napper had intercourse with him at Burradoo (where the school is based).
Following the claims coming to light, Mr Napper was arrested at 10.15am on January 18 after an investigation by the Southern Highlands Police. He was granted bail due to his age and health, court documents revealed.
On Monday, lawyer Sam Rowland said that some of the brief of evidence relating to “evidence of complaint” remained outstanding.
Both sets of matters have been adjourned to October 17. Napper remains on bail.
