A 21-year-old man will remain behind bars on remand after police allege he stabbed a man three times in the back during a brawl in the Southern Highlands.

A Mittagong man has faced court after being accused of stabbing a man three times in the back during a brawl in Moss Vale.

Bryce Dean Moloney, 21, appeared in Goulburn Local Court on Friday after being charged with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possessing a prohibited drug, and not complying with noticed direction related to Covid.

Police allege the Mittagong resident stabbed a 22-year-old man three times in his back on Friday, August 6, during a brawl in Moss Vale.

Police claim Mr Moloney failed to comply with public health orders related to Covid restrictions when he visited two homes in Moss Vale to drink alcohol with a number of people.

According to police, Mr Moloney stabbed the man at around 8pm after illegally socialising in Moss Vale during the regional lockdown.

Emergency services were called to Parkes Road at around 8.10pm after they received reports of a brawl. The court heard they found the man suffering stab wounds to the back and treated the alleged victim at the scene.

He was airlifted to Liverpool Hospital in a serious condition to receive urgent treatment. The 22-year-old has since been discharged from the hospital.

Detectives established a Strike Force Briwood to investigate the alleged stabbing and their inquiries culminated in Mr Moloney’s arrest at a Goulburn motel at 2.30pm on Thursday.

Police allege they uncovered 0.38 grams of methamphetamine in Mr Moloney’s possession when they searched him during the arrest.

Mr Moloney has been refused bail and will appear at Moss Vale Local Court on October 20.
