An elderly woman has been flown to hospital after being pulled from underneath a car in the Blue Mountains.

Emergency crews were called to Minni Ha Ha Rd, Katoomba at about 11.45am on Wednesday following reports that a woman, aged in her 70s, was trapped in her vehicle.

Upon arrival, Fire and Rescue NSW crews located the woman trapped under her car tyre, a spokesman said.

The woman was extracted from underneath the car and flown by helicopter to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.

Chief Inspector Garry Sims, from the Blue Mountains Police Area Command, said that the incident was not suspicious.

“It seems there was a mechanical issue while going down the hill,” Ch Insp Sims said.

“We don’t know whether she was ejected on impact or if she tried to get out of the moving car, but she has somehow come out of the car and became trapped under the rear driver’s side tyre.”

Ch Insp Sims said the woman did not sustain life-threatening injuries and was conscious by the time emergency services were on scene.

He also commended the quick response time of emergency services and the CareFlight helicopter crew.

“It was also impressive to see a lot of care shown by the neighbours, caring for her partner who was home at the time when it happened,” Ch Insp Sims said.
