Theme park Wet’n’Wild Sydney has a new name after being rebranded as Raging Waters Sydney this week.
Spanish leisure parks operator Parques Reunidos, who purchased the park from Village Roadshow last year, announced the new name today along with a new attraction for the summer season.
Parques Reunidos is set to invest millions in upgrading the attraction this winter after purchasing the park for $40 million last October.
The purchase marked the company’s first foray into Australia, adding to its portfolio of more than 60 theme parks, waterparks and family attractions across 15 countries.
The ‘Whirlwind’ ride will mark a new era for the park, which was reportedly sold by Village Roadshow at a loss of $25 million.
The park today released plans for the new ride — a 206-metre “first-of-its-kind slide”, set to open in November, along with new eateries, a new gift shop and VIP areas.
According to a release, the ride will take thrillseekers through spiralling open and enclosed tunnels at speeds of up to 25 km/h and with drops of 2.5 metres.
“It’s a suspenseful journey from dark to light and back again before the final splashdown,” the release said.
Parques Reunidos chief executive Jose Diaz said the company was committed to investing in the theme park.
“We are committed to investing in the future of the park through new attractions, infrastructure and services,” Mr Diaz said.
Raging Waters Sydney general manager Tony Brancazio said he was looking forward to the changes.
“I hope our guests are as excited as I am about Raging Waters Sydney,” Mr Brancazio said.
“We have listened to our guests and have made some key changes that will improve their experience in the park.
“We are looking forward to a great season.”
The upgrades are reported to be the most extensive since the park’s opening in 2013.
The upgrades will also include an increased shade cover, a refreshed group events area, new family VIP cabanas, new food outlets and revamped retails outlets and a new gift shop.
