A neighbour has saved the life of a two-year-old girl who almost drowned in a backyard swimming pool in Seven Hills.
The toddler was rushed to hospital after she was found face down in the water at the Columbia Rd home just after 11am today.
Emergency crews were called to the scene after the girl’s mother, who was home at the time, ran into the front yard with the toddler in her arms, screaming for help.
Neighbour Armina Acopian heard the cries and rushed to help.
“She was dead; she was blue when we saw her,” Ms Acopian said.
“The husband was on the phone to the ambulance and they were giving us instructions. We got her breathing but not very regular, but at least it was something.”
Ms Acopian performed first aid, reviving the girl before NSW Ambulance paramedics and CareFlight’s critical care team arrived.
“I was just shocked. I was looking at a dead person in my mind,” she said.
“At first it wasn’t working but the mouth-to-mouth did.
“I was so shocked when I saw a bit of water come out of her mouth.”
The toddler’s father, Glen Ward, said his little girl is in The Children’s Hospital at Westmead this afternoon with her mother by her side.
A CareFlight Media spokeswoman said her condition was critical.
“She is in ICU and the CT scan says everything is okay,” Mr Ward said.
“She’s breathing and got a heartbeat, but still getting a little assistance.”
The home was taped off as a crime scene this afternoon as police investigate.
Ms Acopian urged people to learn first aid.
“Go get first aid lessons. It could be your own child. It could save someone’s life,” she said.
