TAEKWONDO talent Dylan Sicat’s mental focus has paid dividends in the physical arena.
“Apart from a strong body you need a strong mind and determination,’’ he said.
The 14 year old is a student at Prodigy Martial Arts at Seven Hills and has several accolades to his name since taking up the sport when he was eight.
He names claiming gold in the G2 taekwondo President’s Cup international tournament in Canberra in July as a highlight.
Coming first is not foreign to the Minchinbury youngster.
He also won gold in the Australian Championships in Adelaide in August, as well as the Sydney Taekwondo Festival and Gold Coast Open tournament.
His ultimate goal is to be part of an Australian Olympic team in 2020 or 2024, a goal further inspired after watching his sporting idol, Aussie taekwondo representative Safwan Khalil, compete in Rio last month.
His immediate goal is to consolidate his gold tally to the Oceania Taekwondo Union in Fiji in November.
Prodigy Martial Arts’s Danielle Arena nominated Dylan for the Junior Sports Star Award, and lauded his motivation and work ethic.
“Dylan works within the best of his abilities, and then some,’’ she said.
“As soon as Dylan walks into the centre he puts in an effort of 110 per cent no matter what he is doing.
“Many of the younger students look up to Dylan because of his accomplishments and how he continues to strive for greatness.’’
