CHLOE Borg’s mum and dad, Mel and Ray, thought it would be a good idea for their daughter to get to grips with a sport that would give her some confidence.
She was only six but soon as she started martial art taekwondo, Chloe was hooked.
Now she is 13 and not only has a ton of confidence, she is off to Peru for the World Taekwondo Championships and then to Fiji for the Oceania Championships.
“I’m really excited about it all,” Chloe said. “It’s about learning new things and meeting new people. I’ll keep doing taekwondo I’m sure because it’s giving me so many opportunities.”
She has also imparted her wisdom as a junior instructor at Prodigy Martial Arts in Seven Hills since last year, teaching youngsters from age three to 12.
“I really like being an instructor,” Chloe said.
“As well as teaching others you also learn more about taekwondo too.”
Chloe, who’s in her first year at Erskine Park High School, is successfully combining a six-day-a-week training schedule with her school studies and was recently awarded the school’s Principal’s Award.
Her dad Ray said he was proud of his daughter managing to do all her school work and hold a first dan black belt in her chosen sport.
“She works really hard,” Ray said.
“She is doing unbelievably well in everything she does and it is great to see how she helps the other kids coming up. And yes, she has a lot of confidence now.”
Chloe has been taught by Peter Vassily since she started taekwondo and Danielle Arena who works at Prodigy said the youngster was very popular with staff and pupils.
“Not only has Chloe proven herself to be an amazing athlete at such a young age, she has proved she is a great role model for young children — especially young girls,’’ Arena said.
“Chloe is vibrant, full of energy, kind and always treats everyone with the upmost respect and this is why in turn Chloe has earned the respect the students, parents and instructors,” Arena said.
Chloe has been nominated for a Junior Sports Star, sponsored by Rebel. Nominate at juniorsportsstar.com.au
