PATRICIAN Brothers’ College, Blacktown, is renowned for producing top-tier rugby league players and the new generation is already making its mark.

Three Patties boys have been selected for the Australian Schoolboys under-18 team. The trio is joined by 15-year-old Braiden Magele, who was named in the Australian Schoolboys under-15 team.

Sean O’Sullivan, Josh Curran and Michael Tupou are no strangers to representative honours, having played rugby league in clubs and school at a high level. Hills Sports High’s Dean Blore, a Penrith Panthers representative, has also been selected for the under-18s.

The boys will play in a two-Test series against England Academy starting at the end of the month.

O’Sullivan plays for the Penrith Panthers while Tupou and Curran represent the Parramatta Eels.

“I was stoked when I got picked; it is something I have wanted since Year 7,” O’Sullivan, who is also on the school’s honour roll, said.

Curran, 17, has his eye on the prize.

“I’ve played for the Hills Bulls since I was 11 and now I’m part of the Eels. My goal is to make the NRL and hopefully make my debut soon.”

Tupou, 17, knows the England Academy is a formidable opponent.

“I’ve heard they are pretty big boys and have played superleague games,” he said.

“I’m very excited and it’s a great opportunity for me and my career.”

For Magele, making the squad is the pay-off for years of hard work.

“Making the team is a real honour. My goal is to continue to work hard and stay dedicated to the game,” he says.

The merit team does not play any games.
