GLENWOOD’S Jessica Bowden might only be 15 but she is already emerging as a talented netball player to watch.

The goal keeper and goal defender has been a member of the Western Sydney Academy of Sport since 2015 and is one of the youngest team members in the division 1 squad.

Her coach, Heather Smith, describes her as a “tremendous talent”.

“Jess has displayed a commitment to our program and her personal development working to the highest standards and setting a strong pace within our squad,’’ she said.

Despite being one of the youngest team members, the staff at the academy say the other girls look up to her.

Jessica has made it to the NSW All Schools netball team.

“She is an incredible player,” Tiarnna Spice, from WSAS, says.

“She plays in the goal keeper and goal defence positions and tends to lead that section of the court.

“She is younger than some of the other girls so it is a great achievement that she can lead in that way. She is super dedicated, wherever you look Jess is there.’’

Jessica was selected into the NSW under-15 All School Squad and travelled to Adelaide at the weekend to compete at the School Sport Australia Netball Championships.

Smith said Jessica produced “inspiring performances” in the WSAS competitions in April and July and captained Team 1 at the recent Australian Invitational Youth Games, where the team remained undefeated champions.

“Jess’s leadership in this role in competition provided her team with enthusiasm, intensity and discipline and she contributed significantly to their undefeated first place result,” Smith said.

“She is a popular squad member that has seized her WSAS scholarship opportunities and created a strong future pathway in netball as an emerging talented player in NSW.”
