Blacktown City’s Danny Choi scores amazing 70m goal in FFA Cup match

BLACKTOWN City FC striker Danny Choi’s incredible skill was validated yet again with a 70m match-winning goal against Sydney United in extra time of the FFA Cup.

BLACKTOWN City FC striker Danny Choi’s incredible skill was validated yet again with a 70m match-winning goal against Sydney United in extra time of the FFA Cup.

By full time of the round of 32 clash last night, Blacktown levelled the 2-0 deficit against Sydney United at Lily’s Football Stadium, Seven Hills.

In extra time — with just 10 men — a staggering goal from Choi snapped the tie before before the final scoreline of 6-2.

A hatrick to Patrick Anelmi, as well as goals to Joey Gibbs and Mitch Mallia contributed to the team’s stellar performance.

Blacktown City coach Mark Crittenden was confident Choi’s kick would slot into the net the moment he kicked the ball.

“I remember saying to my assistant ‘It’s going in’. From the moment he kicked it, it looked like it was going in. You just had to see it to believe it. You just didn’t expect it to happen. He’s been very consistent this year.’’

Blacktown’s victory proves they have what it takes to pip United in the NSW Premier League, with the side leading the competition on 48 points.

Blacktown are second on 41.

“They’re a really good footy team,’’ Crittenden said of United.

“They’re leading the comp and to score six goals, it just shows the character of the team. It’s not a one-man side.

“The whole team’s first 20 minutes was pretty poor but at the end of the day we just knew we had the ability to score goals.’’

The side clash with Blacktown Spartans in the local derby at Blacktown Football Park on Sunday at 3pm.

The Spartans are languishing last on the ladder.
