A Seven Hills tradie has pleaded guilty to hiding a camera inside a toilet roll holder and secretly filming a woman in the shower.
James Alexander Underwood, 26, has admitted to installing an optical surveillance device and filming the woman in a private act without her consent at her home in March.
Police say Underwood, a carpenter by trade, carried out work at the woman’s home on the afternoon of March 4 when he installed the recording device inside a toilet roll holder.
Court documents showed Underwood hid a motion-activated camera at the bottom of the holder and faced it towards the shower.
The camera went unnoticed for four days until the victim made the discovery while cleaning the bathroom.
More than 60 video files were found on the device, which showed the victim from the waist down using the toilet and shower.
Underwood initially denied any knowledge of the camera, but later told police he installed the camera to capture naked images of the woman because he was attracted to her.
Court documents show that he has since expressed remorse and told police he “felt sorry” for how he made the victim feel.
Police said the woman “felt violated and upset” about the incident.
Underwood’s solicitor Gary Bailey applied to have the matter suppressed when it was mentioned at Blacktown Local Court today. However, Magistrate Karen Robinson denied the application.
He will be sentenced at Blacktown Local Court on July 26.
