Sam Piccinelli: Whalan child abuse material addict jailed

A convicted child abuse material offender was found with almost 450 sickening images on his Playstation just months after he avoided jail for the same offence.

Should Australia introduce a public sex offenders register?

Shocking new details have emerged about a child porn addict who was found with hundreds of disgusting images on his Playstation.

Sam Piccinelli, 25, was jailed for six months after police uncovered up to 450 images of child abuse on his gaming device during a random child protection inspection.

The Whalan man narrowly avoided jail last October after he admitted to possessing 600 images and animations depicting naked, pre-pubescent children with naked adults.

Less than three months later, police uncovered a stash of fresh images on a Playstation 4 in the lounge room of his Whalan home.

He pleaded guilty to one count of possessing child abuse material.

Police documents revealed the sickening images had been stored in a gallery and included a mixture of some of the worst child abuse material, which included real children engaged in sex acts.

Police said some of the disturbing material included anime images of pre-pubescent girls and real images of a six-month-old baby.

Piccinelli reportedly begged officers to give him a second chance and promised to delete the images after the discovery was made in January, only two and a half months after he had been placed on the Child Protection Register for eight years.

However, police said Piccinelli had tried to hide the images from officers during an earlier inspection in December and had re-downloaded the images between checks.

Of most concern to police was his justification for downloading the images, which he believed did not hurt anyone.

“Police strongly believe the accused has no remorse for his actions and has advised police he thinks his actions are not hurting anyone as the images he possesses are of ‘families’,” court documents read.

“The accused in the two and a half months he has been on the Child Protection Register has shown a lack of initiative to gain professional help for his addiction to abusive material.”

It was further revealed Piccinelli lived in squalor and was an avid gamer and who told police he spent most of his time on the Playstation.

He admitted to three further offences of failing to comply with his child protection register obligations, after he failed to advise police about his internet access, email address and Playstation account.

Piccinelli was sentenced to 12 months’ jail, with a non-parole period of six months, however he will be eligible for release as early as July after time already served.
