The identity of a western Sydney man charged over allegedly sharing child abuse material in a global online network can be revealed.

Raymond John Luke, 71, of Bidwill, faced Mt Druitt Local Court on Wednesday, charged with eight offences relating to the alleged possession and publishing of child abuse material on the internet.

Luke was arrested by Australian Federal Police at his home in July following a tip-off from Interpol’s Moscow bureau about alleged users of an online child abuse sharing network.

He appeared at court on October 28 with supporters after being granted bail in July.

The court heard police had seized two laptops and a computer belonging to Luke for forensic examination.

He is yet to enter a plea to a string of charges, including, using a carriage service to make available child abuse material, three counts of possessing or controlling material obtained through a carriage service, three counts of using a carriage service to access child abuse material and another of using a carriage service to make available/publish/advertise or promote child abuse material.

The case will return to court in December.
