A Blacktown man has been banned from going near schools, childcare centres and playgrounds after he was allegedly found with the worst category of child abuse material.
Jon Christopher Nafarrete, 21, was hit with a string of child abuse charges after the Australian Federal Police arrested him on Thursday.
Police allege Mr Nafarrete solicited, accessed and possessed child abuse material using a phone or internet service.
He faced Blacktown Local Court on Thursday where it was heard the material was categorised as the most serious of its kind.
In considering his application for bail, Magistrate Fiona McCarron said Mr Nafarrete posed a danger to the community.
“I note the offending behaviour all appears to fall in relation to category one, which is the most serious offending behaviour in relation to child abuse material,” Magistrate McCarron said.
“It is an extremely serious set of circumstances
“Mr Nafarrete is a significant risk to the community at large … he poses a danger to the most vulnerable, being children.”
Magistrate McCarron said the nature of the material allegedly found was of great concern.
“The children involved in relation to the possession of the child pornography all fall under the age of 10 years of age,” she said.
“It is certainly a very concerning set of facts before the court.
“In my view, it is inevitable he will receive a custodial sentence [if he is found guilty].”
However, Magistrate McCarron took into account his lack of criminal history and mental health issues and granted him strict bail.
As part of his bail, Mr Nafarrete is banned from being in contact with anyone aged 16 years of age or younger.
He is not allowed to attend or loiter near a place where children would be present, such as schools, childcare centres, playgrounds or libraries.
He is also not allowed to access the internet or contact anyone aged 16 year of age or young using a phone or internet service.
The court also banned him from seeking employment involving children.
He will return to court in December.
