A teenager will remain behind bars after he was allegedly found with child abuse material at his western Sydney home.

A western Sydney teen has faced court after he was allegedly found with child abuse material.

James McMillan, 18, of Blackett, faces one count of possessing child abuse material after being charged on August 25.

Mr McMillan faced Mt Druitt Local Court on Monday from custody at Parklea jail and did not apply for bail.

The court heard the Department of Public Prosecutions was still yet to decide if they would prosecute that case.

Mr McMillan is yet to enter a plea to the charge.

The matter will return to court on October 6.
