Police report: Teen on run after attempted ‘hug mugging’ at Seven Hills

Police are investigating an attempted ‘hug mugging’ at Seven Hills at the weekend, and meanwhile, police have issued almost 90 infringements after a traffic operation in Mt Druitt.

SEVEN HILLS

Police are investigating after a woman was assaulted at Seven Hills station at the weekend. Police said a 49-year-old woman got off a train at Seven Hills at 9.20pm on Saturday, March 30, when she walked across the road in Boomerang Pl and was approached by a teenage girl. The female, aged between 14 and 15 years, allegedly stood within 12 inches of the victim, asking for a hug.

The teenager attempted to place her arms around the victim and assaulted her when she resisted.

The victim was punched in the back on the head, the back and upper body while the teenager tried to grab a purse from her shoulder.

The victim held onto her handbag and called out for help when two men from a nearby shop helped pull the teenager away.

Police said the victim held onto the teenager’s wrist and asked her to sit on a nearby bench, however she ran off through a car park towards First Ave.

The victim was shaken and suffered nausea from the assault. She was taken to Blacktown Hospital for treatment and released.

Police are asking any witnesses to contact Blacktown Police or Crime Stoppers on 1300 333 000.

MT DRUITT

Officers from Mt Druitt Police Area Command conducted a traffic enforcement operation at the weekend, conducting more than 1200 random breath tests and issuing 87 infringement notices.

Police said the operation focused on high visibility patrols, Random Breath Testing, Random Drug Testing and traffic enforcement.

During Operation Robina, from March 29 to 30, police issued 87 traffic infringements for a range of offences, including: driver never licenced, unaccompanied learners, unrestrained children, P-plate and L-plate offences, as well as suspended and disqualified drivers.

Police charged 11 people for offences including drug possession, drink driving, and drug driving.

Officers conducted 1285 breath tests and 75 Random Drug Tests.

Two vehicle defects were issued, eight vehicle searches were conducted, and 18 person searches were conducted.

Similar operations will be conducted in the future.
