BLACKTOWN
A P-plater will face court after being caught behind the wheel in Blacktown with a blood alcohol reading more than three times the legal limit, police say.
The 18-year-old Doonside man was driving along Richmond Road just after 6am on Sunday, March 17, when he collided with traffic lights at the Breakfast Rd intersection.
Police say the man had picked up his mobile phone to change the music in his stereo when the accident occurred.
When police attended the scene, the man approached officers with his hands in front of him, advising police to handcuff him.
“I caused this accident. I have been drinking,” police allege the man said.
After returning a positive result to a roadside breath test, he was arrested and taken to Blacktown Police Station for secondary testing, where he returned a blood alcohol reading of 1.153 — more than three times the legal limit.
He was charged with high-range drink driving and negligent driving and his provisional licence was suspended.
He will appear at Blacktown Local Court on April 16.
DOONSIDE
A man has been charged after allegedly spitting at an officer while on police guard at Blacktown Hospital last week.
Police say the 25-year-old Doonside man was arrested on a warrant when officers spotted him travelling in car on Debrincat Ave in Tregear at 4.30pm on Wednesday, March 13.
The man was taken to Blacktown Police Station and then to Blacktown Hopsital for medical treatment.
While under police guard in the emergency department, police say the man began to swear at police, refusing to stop, despite being told on several occasions.
It’s alleged his behaviour became more aggressive and he then spat at police, narrowly missing the officer.
After being discharged from hospital, he was charged with assaulting an officer in the execution of duty and using offensive language.
He was refused bail and is expected to appear at Blacktown Local Court on March 21.
