The worst roads in western Sydney have been revealed, with Blacktown’s Prospect Highway receiving an unfavourable mention.
The road came in at number five on NRMA’s 2019 Rate Your Road survey.
Drivers highlighted ‘congestion’ as a key issue on the Prospect to Blacktown thoroughfare, with 111 votes.
It came in behind the M5 at Moorebank (510 votes), Heathcote Rd (197 votes), Narellan Rd at Mt Annan (142 votes) and Mugloa Rd at Penrith (140 votes).
More than 23,400 took part in the survey, having their say on almost 10,000 roads across the state.
Participants were asked to rate their road from very poor to excellent on issues such as road safety, traffic congestion and road condition.
Blacktown residents made up the third largest group to voice their concerns across western Sydney, with more than 702 people taking part.
The Prospect Highway is a major bottleneck in Blacktown City, with 35,000 cars — including 5000 heavy vehicles — using the road each day.
The undivided, two-lane road is a major link road, connecting drivers to the M4, Great Western Highway, M2 and Old Windsor Road.
It is a major source of congestion and delays at peak morning and afternoon travel times and has been choked further in recent years due to the area’s booming population.

Improvements on the road are expected to begin later this year after the State Government made a multimillion-dollar pledge for upgrades between Reservoir Road at Prospect and St Martins Crescent at Blacktown.
Construction is set to begin on the 3.6km upgrade in late 2019.
NRMA local director David Dentham said the date collected in the survey would be critical in getting roads improved across the state.
“With less than two weeks to go until voting day, data like this will be invaluable to the NRMA’s state election campaign,” Mr Bentham said.
“It’s telling that all of the roads at the top of the list for Western Sydney have been voted in for congestion.
“Some of these roads will soon be transformed with the completion of major road and public transport projects, but we need to keep our ears to the ground and make sure those projects deliver the real changes that Western Sydney needs.”
