Police are searching for two men who allegedly entered a home and shot a man in Tregear overnight.

Police are hunting for two men after a man was shot in the arm at a Tregear home overnight.

Emergency crews were called to the home on Kista Dan Ave about 11.40pm on July 18 after reports a man had been shot.

Police report a 31-year-old man answered a knock at the door before two unknown men entered.

It is believed the men became involved in a verbal argument before the resident was shot in the arm.

Police say the two men fled the scene in a silver sedan and remain on the run.

The 31-year-old was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.

Mt Druitt police are now searching for two men described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, aged in their 30s and of medium build.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
