A 24-year-old man has died in Parklea Correctional Centre, with NSW Police and Corrective Services NSW investigating.
Corrective Services NSW declined to answer questions relating to the death inside the privately-run facility in Sydney’s west — instead instructing NewsLocal to direct questions to centre operator MTC-Broadspectrum.
A spokesman for the correctional centre said the 24-year-old was found unresponsive in his cell at around 3.10pm on Wednesday.
“He received immediate treatment by medical staff but passed away at approximately 3.24pm,” the spokesman said.
“All deaths in custody are subject to a coronial inquest (and) Corrective Services NSW and NSW Police are investigating.”
Sources inside the correctional centre suggested the death occurred after a large group of inmates refused to return to their cells.
NewsLocal understands it is the third inmate death inside the prison in a year.
