More than a month after the State Government instructed Metro Trains Sydney to “urgently address” violent shaking on the Sydney Metro northwest, commuters are still asking why their new driverless service is shuddering so badly.
On July 9, NewsLocal questioned Transport for NSW as dozens of commuters hit out over the constant rumbling of the train growing worse day-by-day.
At the time a Transport for NSW spokeswoman told NewsLocal the issue was “not safety-related” and that the trains required wheel reprofiling. However, later said it had instructed the trains management to urgently address the issue.
But when contacted about the fact shaking had continued to take place on the service, the Transport spokeswoman this week said “work to re-profile the wheels across the Metro fleet is underway as part of planned, maintenance work.”
The spokeswoman reassured passengers the issue was not safety related.
But commuters hit back online, flooding a Sydney Metro social media page with complaints.
One commuter said the shaking was worsening on every trip, while another said Sydney Metro had been inundated with complaints on their website from northwest Sydney commuters.
“The operator of the Metro North West Line, Metro Trains Sydney (MTS) has advised Sydney Metro that the issue is not safety related and the wheel re-profiling schedule will be completed shortly,” the spokeswoman said.
