A multimillion-dollar development for the elderly and dementia sufferers could be built in Elara Marsden Park under new plans from a major aged care provider.
Opal Aged Care has submitted plans to Blacktown Council for a $37 million facility on Northbourne Dr.
The development would include 148 beds over two storeys with a dementia specific unit for up to 16 residents.
The plans incorporate a bowling green, gym and allied health area, cafe for residents and visitors, hair salon, activity rooms and lounge rooms.
If approved, the facility would be built near the proposed Marsden Park primary school and future Elara Neighbourhood Centre, with plans currently before the council.
According to the plans, the facility will create at least 120 jobs, with dozens more to be generated during construction and after the centre’s opening.
In a social impact statement, the residence would be one of three Opal facilities across Blacktown City, and would fill the growing need for dementia care, high care and palliative care in the region.
In Blacktown City, estimates show a 140 per cent increase in residents aged over 70 years over the next 16 years.
“The proposal has been designed to meet the future needs of the ageing population of the City of Blacktown and surrounding areas, responding to increased demand for people requiring high level nursing, palliative care and dementia care in the region,” documents read.
“The proposal will make an important contribution to the supply of seniors housing in the area.”
Plans for the development will remain on public exhibition until December 11. To have your say, visit the Blacktown Council website here.
