Plans to build $1.2m child care centre in Glendenning submitted to council

Plans to build a $1.29 million child care centre in Glendenning have been submitted to Blacktown Council.

The plans, tendered by Zhinar Architects, would involve the construction of a single-storey centre on Richmond Rd, which would cater for more than 100 children.

The site would sit next to a string of takeaway restaurants, a chemist and medical centre and be within walking distance of St Francis of Assisi Primary School.

The centre is proposed to operate between 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday, with places for children aged between 0 to 5 years of age.

The development would incorporate a 28-space carpark and outdoor play areas surrounded by brick or masonry fencing.

The development is expected to generate up to 11 jobs for childcare staff.

The proposal seeks to demolish an existing house at 674 Richmond Road to make way for the development.

Access to the centre would be via Richmond Road only, with no access from Josephine Way at the rear of the development.

In a public interest statement, Zhinar Architects said the development would cater to the high demand for quality childcare in the Blacktown area.

“The proposal will allow young mothers to enter back into the workforce as the centre provides placement for various age groups,” proposal documents read.

According to the 2016 Census, close to 27,000 children aged between 0-4 years lived in the Blacktown area.
