Mt Druitt’s tallest building is about to get even higher after plans to add an extra two storeys, consisting of more than 100 extra units, were given the tick of approval.

Mt Druitt’s first high-rise development is set to tower even higher after a proposal to add two extra storeys and more than 100 additional units was given the green light.
Mt Druitt Central at 1 Zoe Pl will be increased from 10 to 12 storeys, with the number of units boosted from 266 to 372 after the State Planning Panel approved plans to vary the building height.
The multimillion dollar apartment block will be the tallest in the Mt Druitt CBD once complete and will pave the way for the revitalisation of the area after $1.5b zoning changes were fast-tracked by the State Government last year.
Last May, plans from Blacktown Council for the rezoning of 24 hectares of land in the CBD area to facilitate more mixed-use commercial and residential development were approved.
The accelerated plans are set to create 2,800 new homes in the precinct, as well as new cafes, restaurants, retail outlets and commercial space in taller buildings.
Mt Druitt Central will stand at the heart of the CBD revamp, with three towers and ground level retail space and a mezzanine level supermarket.
The recently-approved changes to the development will increase the height of the towers from 33 to 40 metres.
Sydney-based Chinese developer GLP is behind the milestone towers, which will consist of modern one, two and three-bedroom apartments.
In approving the amended plans, the panel stated the development would contribute to the urban hub planned for the Mt Druitt CBD.
“The proposed building’s bulk and scale will be compatible with the emerging scale of the locality which has been envisioned for the Mount Druitt CBD area,” planning documents read.
The original development application for the site was approved in 2015 kicking off the renewal of the area, which has long been synonymous with the ‘Struggle Street’ stereotype.
Initial plans for the CBD’s renewal have centred on the revamp of Dawson Mall, as well as a new playground on Cleeve Cl, a stage or event space, and the expansion of Mt Druitt Hub to create an outdoor cafe.
