THE construction of public housing in Seven Hills shows the State Government made the right decision by selling its Millers Point property, Disability Services Minister John Ajaka said.
Mr Ajaka and Seven Hills state Liberal MP Mark Taylor last Thursday inspected the 17 units at the corner of Jordan and Lucas Rd.
The $5.5 million development was funded by the sale of public housing at Millers Point – a decision that forced the eviction of housing commission residents.
Mr Ajaka said the sale of the Millers Point property would result in 1500 new social housing homes across the state, including the development at Seven Hills.
“One property sold for that amount at Millers Point,” he said.
“When you have the choice of building 17 new residences compared to only one property it’s clear what the answer is.’’
Wilfred Ison recently moved into his two-bedroom unit at the Seven Hills property and said he was very happy with his new home.
It was somewhat of a homecoming for the 94-year-old who lived in a government-owned cottage on the property for about 50 years before it was demolished to make way for the new units.
“It suits me nicely, it couldn’t be better,” he said.
