A PROPOSAL to start work on a new acute services building at Blacktown Hospital will be on exhibition from today for community consultation.
The Department of Planning and Environment is keen to hear the community’s views on the proposal for stage two of the hospital upgrade that would see construction of a nine storey Acute services building in Marcel Crescent, Blacktown.
The NSW Government is investing more than $700 million in the Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospital redevelopment, over two stages.
Stage two of the redevelopment will increase the amount of beds at the hospital and will include:
· a new emergency department
· an intensive care unit
· operating theatres
· maternity services
· ambulance bay.
The project will require an extension of ‘Hospital Street’, refurbishment works to the main hospital building, works to connect the existing hospital buildings to the new acute services facility and landscaping works.
Stage one of the redevelopment opened in April and included a new inpatient building, additional beds, additional outpatient clinics, a new in-centre renal dialysis unit and comprehensive cancer care centre,
A spokesman for the Department of Planning and Environment said the local community always has an opportunity to share their views.
“Community consultation is an integral part of the planning process and the applicant will have to respond to the feedback we receive,” the spokesman said.
“This feedback is taken into consideration as part of the assessment.
“It’s easy to participate by going online and we encourage everyone to take a look and have their say.”
