A MAN who was attacked by a dog in Blacktown is trying to track down its owner, who left without offering assistance.

Edwin Concubierta was walking his dog along Derwent Pde, Blacktown, about 7pm on Wednesday, August 17 when a dog lunged at him, biting his arm and dragging him to the ground.

“I heard a lady about 20 to 30 metres behind me yell,” he said. “I turned around and saw that she had lost control of her dog. It was running towards me.

“I picked up my dog in my left arm and next thing I knew it had latched on to my right arm. I was thrown to my knees.

“Then it went for my dog. I was screaming, I was terrified for my dog.”

Mr Concubierta, 24, said although he was bleeding profusely from his arm, the woman did nothing to help. Then she disappeared.

“She didn’t even ask if I was OK,” he said. “She was backing away slowly. I said ‘Where are you going? I need your details?’

His dachshund-jack russell cross Rusty was bitten, though not severely.

Both Mr Concubierta's legs were badly grazed after he was taken down by the dog.

Mr Concubierta drove to his local medical centre where he received treatment for puncture wounds to his arm and scraped fingers and knees. He said his injuries were painful and had cost him a week of work, but his main concern now was finding the woman and her dog.

“I don’t want her dog to be put down,” he said. “I just want … for the dog to be registered and muzzled, so that it doesn’t happen to anyone else.

“I’m a 75kg dude who got dragged to the ground in two seconds. If this was a kid, they wouldn’t be with us today.”

The dog attack was one of 222 that occurred across Blacktown City in the past year, though not all involved injuries to people.

Mr Concubierta said he reported the incident to Blacktown police, who referred the matter on to the council. But he was told that without the woman’s name and address there was little the council could do.

He has printed flyers that he has dropped into letter boxes near where the accident happened.

He’s hoping either the woman will come forward or that someone who knows her will contact the police or the council.

“I understand she was scared and scared for her own safety as well. But she was really selfish … I needed help straight away and she literally did nothing to help me. She needs to be held accountable for that.”

The woman is described as 155-160cm tall with curly, thick, dark shoulder length hair, of Middle Eastern appearance with an accent. She was last seen walking towards Hilltop Ave or Leslie St. Her dog is a small to medium sized dark blonde staffy or pit bull, with a light nose and slightly chubby.
