A 59 year-old Blacktown grandmother has won a whopping $1.7million Keno jackpot at the Blacktown Workers Club, only two months after buying a 10 number ticket for the first time.

Today, the happy but relaxed winner was back her “local” for the Sunday raffles, and continued her winning streak by picking up the meat tray, which she said she would normally be ecstatic about.

“It’s not quite the same as winning $1.7 million,” she joked.

The woman, who wishes to keep her identity private, said she wanted nothing more than to retire before her 60th birthday, go on a driving holiday with her husband, and spoil her eight grandchildren.

She explained that she missed the moment when all 10 of her numbers came up but saw on the Keno screen that the $1,707,000 jackpot had gone off at the club.

“I saw when it flashed up. That’s when I started freaking out and thought it could be me,” she said.

“We had to wait for a supervisor to come over because the screen froze.

“I was in tears; absolutely in tears. I had to ring my husband who was in another part of the club.

“When he saw me crying he thought something was wrong. He thought someone had hurt me.

“When I told him I’d won the jackpot, he was over the moon.”

The winner said she had only started playing 10 numbers about two months ago and before that had always played six numbers, which has a maximum jackpot of $1,800.

She said that she hand-picked the 10 numbers for their significance to her and her husband. They included the couplies birth dates, anniversary date, the year they got married, and the number of grandchildren they had.

The winning numbers were 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 20, 28, 53, 57 and 79.

The winner spent just $10 on the ticket, playing 10 $1 games.

Keno spokesperson David Dicker congratulated the winner, saying the team at Keno were thrilled that someone who had been a dedicated Keno player for two decades had won a major jackpot.

“Keno loves to make millionaires and our latest major jackpot winner is proof that if you’re playing Keno, you have the chance to become a millionaire every three minutes,”he said.

“Keno is all about bringing people happiness and the chance to win – and that’s just what it has done for our latest winner.”
