BLACKTOWN is well and truly on the foodie bandwagon — or the food truck.

After the Aussie Night Markets’ successful debut at the Village Green, Blacktown, more food trucks are set to roll into the CBD to satisfy famished appetites.

And there’s entertainment to accompany the food as well.

Lunch in the Plaza started last week and will be held each Thursday outside Max Webber Library from 11.30am to 2.30pm.

This week’s offering will be the Eat Art Truck, which serves up American barbecue, while singer and guitarist Garry Booth provides entertainment.

Contemporary cuisine is on the menu on September 29 when Chef Life sets up shop, followed by Street Sliders mini burgers (October 6 and 20), Chef Life contemporary food (October 13) and Cedars Food Truck for lovers of Lebanese food on October 27.

On Friday, Aussie Food Markets revelled in a successful debut at the Village Green.

Blacktown Council said all but three of the 43 stalls sold out of tucker.

Blacktown Mayor Stephen Bali said the truck was part of a wider council plan to revitalise the Blacktown CBD.

“For some time we have been working on plans to bring Blacktown alive,” he said.

“The best part of the night for me was to be able to wander through the Village Green and watch families out for the night enjoying the city.”

The Friday night event will continue until the end of December, when a decision will be made about whether to continue next year.

“If it proves a popular attraction, we will probably make it an annual event during the daylight saving period, when the weather is warmer and the longer daylight hours really make it a good way to end the week,” Cr Bali said.
