Keith Urban, Tina Arena, John Butler among line-up at Sydney Coliseum Theatre
A who’s who of Australian stars will perform at the Sydney Coliseum Theatre when it opens in Rooty Hill in December.
Keith Urban, Tina Arena, Dame Edna Everage, John Butler, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and David Campbell will be among the first to perform at the Sydney Coliseum Theatre.
The opening program for the Rooty Hill theatre, which will open in December, was announced this morning.
The opening week begins with a joint performance from the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and David Campbell on December 12 and 13.
Sydney Symphony Orchestra chief executive officer Emma Dunch said it was “such an honour for us to be calling this incredible venue our western Sydney home”.
“The Orchestra has been performing in western Sydney for many years and we have seen such exciting changes happening in the region,” she said.
“There is no doubt in my mind that greater western Sydney is the future of our city.”
Ms Dunch said the orchestra’s partnership with the theatre “gives audiences from the entire greater western Sydney community the opportunity to enjoy music all year round and to enjoy the best that we have to offer”.
“The venue is outstanding; the facilities and auditorium are world-class and it’s going to be an incredible opportunity for both audiences and our musicians to connect through music,” she said.
The opening month’s performances continue with Tina Arena on December 14 and 15, Dame Edna Everage on December 18 and 19, and John Butler on December 20.
On December 21, country music star Keith Urban will officially open the theatre with a special concert.
West HQ chief executive Richard Errington said he was “thrilled to be able to launch Sydney’s new world-class venue with an award-winning performer of Keith Urban’s calibre”.
The theatre’s inaugural year of programming will also include the Australian Ballet, Bangarra Dance Theatre, Sydney Dance Company, and the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs.
