Blacktown’s Lawrence Bing has a quarter of a million TikTok followers thanks to his comedy videos and short clips on his journey from female to transgender male.

Growing up Mr Bing was told what he felt about his body was wrong.

When he had the opportunity to make a positive impact on TikTok, he transformed into the role model he never had.

“Growing up in my teenage years, I didn’t have that representation or that visibility of the LGBTQ+ community as I do now, as my high school years were not open to the LGBTQ+ community. Nothing was spoken about,” Mr Bing said.

“Now I finally have that visibility, representation and, not only that, but now a community that I surround myself with and a community of my own. This includes the allies which I have a name for, those wonderful people which are called the ‘Loyals’.”

Six years into his social media journey, Mr Bing said his commitment to supporting the LGBTQ+ community has meant he responds to all messages for help and hosts regular live streams.

“It’s been such a blessing having the followers that I have. They have helped me get to where I am now, and if I didn’t have them, I’m unsure of where I would be today without them,” he said.

“I love hearing the feedback that I do get, whether it’s from the allies, LGBTQ+, but especially from other trans people and those people who have said to me ‘thank you for helping, or educating me on this’.

“It makes me feel special, and it’s very empowering. It feels like it’s worth doing what I do.”

Recently, the TikTok star has undergone top surgery in a bid to tackle the gender dysphoria which he has long experienced.

“These gender affirmation surgeries truly save lives,” Mr Bing said.

The Blacktown resident said he was excited to be part of the Mardi Gras celebrations.

“I’ll be openly expressing my bisexuality and transition as a trans guy being in the LGBTQ+ community with great freedom, while representing it with TikTok this year,” he said.
