Lalor Park man refused bail over ‘attempted murder’ of mother
A man who allegedly tried to suffocate his bedridden mother was on bail for domestic violence offences.

A man who allegedly tried to suffocate his bedridden mother was on bail for domestic violence matters at the time, a court has revealed.
Shaun Johnston, 36, of Lalor Park, did not appear when his matter was mentioned in Blacktown Local Court today and did not apply for bail on one count of attempting to suffocate with intent to murder.
Police allege Johnston attacked his 64-year-old mother in her home on Gallop Gr, Lalor Park after he demanded money.
After the woman said she didn’t have any money, Johnston allegedly tried to suffocate her, using a pillow to smother her face and restrict her breathing.
Using a medical alert device, the woman alerted emergency services, who arrived a short time later and arrested Johnston at the property.
The woman, who is understood to suffer serious medical issues, was taken to Blacktown Hospital with injuries sustained during the alleged attack.
The defence told the court a blood sample had been taken from the woman for forensic purposes.
The court heard Johnston was on bail for domestic-related property damage offences at the time and was due to face Windsor Local Court yesterday.
Police allege Johnston recklessly destroyed the screen door and laundry wall of a woman known to him at a home in South Windsor on August 30 and 31.
Court documents showed he was charged with a further offence after he failed to appear at court for these matters. He pleaded not guilty to these offences but is yet to enter a plea for the fresh charge.
The attempted murder matter will return to Blacktown Local Court on January 17, 2020.
The domestic violence charges were adjourned to Penrith Local Court on January 14, 2020.
