“This project will not just cater for our local athletes, but will offer world-class facilities, available to everyone.

It is set to be the centrepiece of the Blacktown International Sports Park and will provide world-class athletes and local residents alike access to high-performance training facilities, sports medicine and rehabilitation.

There will be a state-of-the-art strength and conditioning gym, an indoor multipurpose hall, indoor running track, recovery pools, a sports science lab, physiotherapy, a nutrition and recovery zone as well as outdoor training fields.

Blacktown City Council said the facility will be open to both amateur and professional athletes of all ages.

The idea of the facility is for athletes to have access to everything they need from education and learning to peak performance and recovery, all in the same place, while offering state-of the-art facilities for local sports teams and individuals needing rehabilitation.

It is expected it will be used by 300,000 visitors annually.
