House fire at Swinson Rd, Blacktown

POLICE have said a fire that ripped through a two-storey house in Blacktown last night was not suspicious.

A FATHER was left devastated after a fire tore through his home destroying his family’s belongings and those of his relative who were visiting from Canada.
Nasib Mohammed was watching television with his wife at their two-storey home on Swinson Rd, Blacktown, when they noticed a small fire in the ceiling of their home.
The pair ran outside and screamed for the neighbours to call the firefighters just around 9.30pm.

“Downstairs there are some stuff but it’s all fire damaged and wet, but upstairs it’s finished, totally gutted,” Mr Mohammed said as he looked shattered at the home he built for his three-children and wife.

The Canadian tourists lost all their belongings in the blaze which ripped through the house including their passports.

It took more than 30 firefighters to extinguish the fire.

Mr Mohammed’s neighbour also rushed to the street to discover the home on fire after hearing an explosion.

“I was watching the tennis and then boom,’’ Jose, who did not wish to give his surname, said.

“I went outside and I saw the fire — it was like three metres in the air. It took approximately one-and-a-half hours for the fire brigade to put the fire out.

“I told the next door neighbours to come out and move the car before another explosion happened.’’

Early investigations suggest the fire was not suspicious and might have been caused from an electrical fault inside the airconditioner.

However the exact cause of the fire couldn’t be identified due to safety concerns.

Material from the top floor fell through to the first-floor causing the fire to erupt and burn through the stairs.

No one was injured in the fire.
