GWS Giants JLT and AFLW squads coming to Blacktown for special double header
Blacktown International Sportspark is hosting a special GWS Giants AFL and AFLW double header this weekend.
A slow start to the season has not diminished GWS’ finals hopes, Giants AFLW star Erin McKinnon says.
Despite opening their 2019 season with three straight losses, the Giants’ nine-point victory over Collingwood last week ensured that GWS still have plenty to play for with three rounds left in the regular season.
“Obviously it hasn’t been the ideal start to the season but we’re starting to feel really confident in our abilities and all our team structures and our players,” McKinnon said.
“We’re really confident that we do have what it takes.
“Hopefully, if we get a few wins headed into finals, we’ll still stand a chance to finish the season strong.”
The Giants will get a big boost this weekend as the club comes to Blacktown International Sportspark for a special double header.
The action will get underway on Saturday with a huge AFL JLT Community Series clash with the Sydney Swans before the women take the field on Sunday against Melbourne.
“We’re really excited to come back to Blacktown,” McKinnon said.
“We always get such great crowds at Blacktown and the atmosphere’s always incredible. It really gives us a boost having that home crowd advantage.
“We love playing here and it’s the heart and soul of the Giants so it’s really good whenever we have a game down here to have all the fans support us.”
Entry to both games will be free however attendees to the JLT game will be asked to optionally contribute a gold coin upon entry in support of NSW drought relief.
