Riverstone Netball Club has received a boost after Blacktown Council received a $250,000 grant from the state government to upgrade the sports courts at Riverstone Park.
The funding, along with an additional $250,000 from Blacktown Council, will go towards resurfacing Riverstone Park’s four netball courts and converting it’s ageing tennis courts to multipurpose courts.
State Liberal Member for Riverstone Kevin Conolly said the renewed facilities would rejuvenate sport in the area.
“Multi-purpose courts provide spaces which can be used for a wide range of recreation activities, benefiting more people,” Mr Conolly said.
“The courts will be adjacent to the skate park, providing a wide range of activities for young people. The site will be modernised with the courts to be resurfaced and new lighting installed, as well as goalposts and basketball rings.
“This project will boost recreation options for the community and benefit the wellbeing of young people in particular, through increased physical activity and social interaction.”
Riverstone Netball Club president Leanne Leache said the Riverstone Park upgrades were long overdue.
“We are so excited,” she said.
“This is the first time in decades that our club and facilities have had any kind of funding support of this type.”
