Serial thief and carer for the terminally ill, Violeta Hansen, has entered pleas to 13 fresh charges against her when she appeared in Burwood Local Court on Tuesday.
The Blacktown woman, who previously pleaded guilty to stealing $40,000 worth of jewellery from terminally ill patients she cared for, was served with a total of 23 charges of theft and making false statements to pawnbrokers after she went on an alleged stealing spree in homes across Bexley, Wiley Park, Drummoyne, Doonside, North Rocks, Kellyville and Colebee.
Hansen pleaded guilty to seven of the new charges and not guilty to a further five. One matter is still outstanding.
The woman, who told police she had been fired from several employment agencies following allegations of stealing from patients, denied claims she stole cash from several homes.
Hansen’s Lawyer, Andrew Sant, told the court the 46-year-old pleaded guilty to several offences which “seem to have occurred all over Sydney”.
Ms Hansen pleaded guilty to stealing two 9ct gold bracelets worth a total of $300, a pair of gold earrings worth $100, a 14ct gold ring with sapphire stone and diamond worth $500 and an
18ct gold and silver solitaire wedding ring worth $1000 from Colebee woman, Suzanne Pattinson.
She also pleaded guilty to two sequences of making false statements to pawnbrokers and stealing an ANZ debut card and $770 from Kellyville man, Lincolne Innes.
The Blacktown carer rejected claims she stole Stirling silver bracelets worth $1400 and a flower pendant worth $500 from Bexley woman Nadine Jebraiel.
She also denied claims she made a false statement to a Bexley pawnbroker, stole $100 from the north Rocks home of Janet Ramsey as well as stealing a gold Superman ring worth $100 from Colebee man, Jason Boyd.
Hansen also pleaded not guilty to police allegations she had two gold link chains, a gold ring with clear stones, a men’s two-toned wedding band, a gold bracelet, oroton watch and a gold Swarovski earrings and necklace set suspected of being stolen on October 10.
The woman, who was entrusted to care for the terminally ill and disabled in their homes - and was even taken on an all expenses paid cruise by a patient - had previously pleaded guilty to all charges relating to false statements and four of the six counts of stealing property. She refused allegations that she stole $1950 in cash from two homes.
According to court documents Hansen stole four diamond rings, a gold sapphire ring, a watch, two wedding bands, two gold chains and a diamond pendant.
The 46-year-old was arrested at a Blacktown pawn shop in Westpoint Shopping Centre at about 2.20pm on October 10, following an extensive investigation by Campsie, Burwood and Blacktown Police Area Command officers.
Police facts described Hansen as displaying a “clear abuse of power” and “did not offer any sign of remorse or apology to her victims”.
The woman will return to Burwood Local Court on January 14.
