A man accused of sexually touching a woman on a bus in western Sydney has been banned from catching public transport as part of his bail conditions.
Frederick ‘Fred’ Amituanai, 27, was charged on Tuesday with sexual touching without consent following a public appeal from police about an alleged incident on a bus in Mt Druitt in June.
Police allege the Plumpton man sat behind a woman, 26, after she boarded a bus at Mt Druitt station at 10.30am on June 4 when he touched her inappropriately.
It’s alleged the incident took place during the journey from the station to Plumpton.
Police say the woman confronted him before she exited the bus a short time later.
Mr Amituanai allegedly handed himself into Mt Druitt police on Wednesday following a public appeal from police.
He was refused bail and spent the night in custody before appearing at Mt Druitt Local Court today.
Magistrate James Gibson granted him bail, on the condition he forfeit $1000 and report to Mt Druitt police.
He is also banned from using public transport.
Court documents showed Mr Amituanai had a limited criminal history but would face possible jail time if convicted.
He is yet to enter a plea to the charge.
The matter will return to court next week.
