Plans for a multimillion-dollar four-star hotel in the heart of the Blacktown CBD are progressing, more than two years after they were first revealed.
The $93 million development is set to transform the current Asian supermarket Good Luck Plaza on First Ave into a modern, 24-storey tower with a mixture of hotel and student accommodation.
Plans for the groundbreaking development were first revealed in early 2019, with global hotel chain Marriott last year announcing its plans to expand beyond the Sydney CBD for the first time with a Four Points by Sheraton in Blacktown.
The hotel, set to open by 2024, would be Blacktown’s first four-star accommodation and would feature more than 200 hotel rooms, more than 260 student rooms and 50 residential apartments.
The Sheraton hotel would also include a pool, gym and conference rooms.
A Woolworths Metro supermarket would operate on the street-level of the development, along with restaurant and function facilities.
The student rooms would comprise 11 storeys of the development, and include kitchenettes, ensuites, media and study areas and laundry facilities.
Developers have pitched the project as providing affordable housing for low-income students, particularly international students.
There is predicted to be an increase in demand for student housing in the Blacktown area with the opening of the interim ACU campus this year.
If approved, the development would stand as one of the CBD’s tallest buildings, matching the 24-storey Altitude apartment tower.
Plans were referred to the NSW Planning Panel this month.
