The transformation of the Blacktown CBD is set to continue after plans for a $50 million tower, complete with a function centre, licensed restaurant and apartments, were lodged with the council.
Under the proposal, a strip of old shops will make way for the 16-storey building at 34-46 Flushcombe Rd, Blacktown.
Developer Phoenix Hotel Group hopes to build 150 residential apartments, a ground level pub/licensed restaurant and a first floor function centre with meeting rooms.
The development will also include up to five levels of basement parking and 14 levels of apartments.
The rooftop area will be used as a communal entertainment area.
The current site, which backs onto Cobbs Ln, includes a range of businesses including Ray White Real Estate, El Jannah, a chicken shop, two hair salons, a massage clinic and tutoring centre.
According to planning documents, the slick development is not expected to lead to a drastic increase in traffic.
“Customers, diners, gamers are expected to be largely walk-ins due to the site’s prime location within the heart of the Blacktown CBD, rather than driving to the site as a ‘destination’,” planning documents read.
“The proposed function and meeting rooms are primarily intended to complement the pub and will be available for booking as part of the pub facilities.”
If approved, the development could neighbour an $800 million Brain and Spinal Institute, pitched by renowned neurosurgeon Charlie Teo on the site of the current Blacktown Council administration building.
Future transformation of the Blacktown CBD was accelerated, with the State Government approving a $1.1 billion plan last year to rezone land in the centre of Blacktown, increase building heights and make way with floorspace ratio restrictions.
In January, the council revealed its plans to sell the parcel of prime real estate in the Blacktown city centre and shift the administrative centre and neighbouring Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre.
