The deaths of two men in a three-car crash in Marsden Park last week has left the local community devastated.
Afteen Batarseh, 29, and Ryan Dimech, 22, tragically died after the collision on Richmond Rd on Wednesday night.
Mr Batarseh, a Jordanian immigrant, was driving a Subaru when he was rear-ended by a Mitsubishi travelling in the same direction at about 9.20pm.
The Mitsubishi smashed into the side barrier and Mr Batarseh crashed into an oncoming Hyundai, driven by Mr Dimech.
Mr Batarseh died at the scene. Mr Dimech was flown to Westmead Hospital with critical injuries, but sadly died on Thursday morning. The driver of the third car was uninjured.
Friend Salem Nabil Naffaa said Mr Batarseh “totally loved life”.
“He loved making hookahs and he loved to dance,” he said.
“He had cancer and pushed through it and made it go away.
“(When he was) really young he was smashed by a car so he ran away from dying twice.”
Mr Nabil Naffaa said Mr Batarseh was born in Amman Jordan, moved to Australia in 2008 and was going to be married this summer.
Mr Dimech was driving home from soccer when the devastating crash occurred.
A GoFundMe page has already raised more than $6000 for the Dimech family, who were coming to terms with the tragedy.
Family and friends have posted tributes to Ryan on the fundraising page, where he has been remembered as a loving son, brother and keen soccer player.
“Ryan was and is loved by so many friends and family. His presence will be sorely missed forever,” one person wrote.
“Ryan will always live on in the hearts of those who loved him most.”
“My dearest nephew, I still can’t believe this is real. I will miss you the rest of my life,” Christie Burgess wrote.
“My condolences to the whole family, I played indoor soccer with Ryan and even though I didn’t know him for too long I knew he was an absolute legend, may he forever Rest In Peace, devastating news,” Fabian Fernandez wrote.
