A community fundraiser calling for support for a western Sydney family who lost their house to a devastating blaze on Monday afternoon has raised more than $17000 in 24 hours.
A GoFundMe created by Kenneth Tuala, whose parents and two siblings lived at the Doonside home, was created on June 18, the day after the blaze, and within 24 hours has raised $17,241 of its $30,000 target.
“My parents family house experienced a devastating house fire that destroyed their home and all their belongings,” the description reads.
“(Everyone) escaped unharmed but they have lost everything and need to start over.
“They urgently needs (sic) to secure a new place to live and replace essential items.”
The lowset house in Graham St, Doonside, went up in flames around 2.30pm on Monday, with seven firefighting crews rushing to the scene.
When they arrived, the house was well alight.
Three people, a woman in her 50s and two men, aged 18 and 20, managed to escape the blaze.
Firefighters said the house was fitting with smoke alarms, but they did not activate.
The blaze has prompted a stern warning from firefighters, who are now urging the public to keep furniture at least a metre away from electric heaters and ensure all fire alarms are working.
A NSW Ambulance spokesman said one person was taken to Blacktown Hospital in a stable condition. Two other people declined transport.
The house was damaged by the fire internally but was still standing. Emergency services left the scene at around 4pm.
