Doonside death: Boy, 14, charged with murder appears at Parramatta Children’s Court

One of the children charged with murder after allegedly bashing another boy to death is a high school dropout who was arrested with blood on his shoes and punched the child 52 times, a court has heard.

A 14-year-old boy charged with murder over the death of a teenager in Doonside last week allegedly struck the minor 52 times and had blood on his shoes when he was arrested, a court has heard.

Police have revealed grim details surrounding the death of the 16-year-old last Saturday as they outlined how their investigation is far from over as detectives hunt down more potential offenders.

The boy, 14, sat quietly wearing a yellow shirt and a brown jumper as his own lawyer told Parramatta Children’s Court on Friday the footage of the incident was “horrendous”.

He sat still as the disturbing details about how the boy died were aired in open court.

He is one of five minors charged over the death of the boy, who was allegedly lured to the home by 19-year-old Kayla Dawson over a pair of stolen AirPods, before the group are accused of assaulting him over almost 30 minutes.

“This is a really sad matter, the attack was gruesome,” his barrister AJ Karim said.

“I’ve watched all three (videos) and I think I’d be lightly putting it when I call it horrendous.

“It is terrible, it is truly a stain on our community for an offence like this to occur.”

Mr Karim argued the boy should be granted bail because the evidence raised questions of how police identified him and the level of violence he personally inflicted on the boy.

Some of the videos of the horror incident ended up on social media and have allegedly been viewed more than 170,000 times.

Police in court attempted to play three videos of the boy allegedly being assaulted so viciously the group made a hole in a wall.

The police prosecutor told the court officers were investigating if there were still a number of “potential offenders” out in the community.

“Four young persons take active part in assaulting this victim. It’s ongoing, it is extreme, there were words like ‘finish him, pick him up I’ll f****** throw him into the wall’,” he said.

“This young person continued to kick and punch him to the point it puts a hole in the wall.”

The boy comes from a troubled family home and at times would only be in the house for three nights before disappearing for weeks on end, the court heard.

The court was told police will allege the 14-year-old struck the boy 52 times as his peers allegedly joined in and when he handed himself into Granville police station he had blood on his shoes.

His legal team argued the stain on his shoes was “the assumption of a police officer” and an image they used to identify him in the footage did not match the young boy sitting before the court.

Police told the court Kayla Dawson, who is accused of luring the boy to the home for what he was told was a party, identified the 14-year-old in her interview with detectives.

They allege the group detained the boy to gain “gang notoriety” and forced him to denounce certain western Sydney street gangs as they assaulted him.

“(Police say) he has struck this individual 52 times, 52 times. They say he stomped on this individual, punched this individual and they say there is just one spot on his shoes,” Mr Karim told the court.

“Logic would tell you when the attack is sustained and repeated where it’s alleged this individual has been struck 52 times one would expect more.”

He was described in one letter tendered to the court as a “polite young boy” but was recently kicked out of an inner west high school and drank alcohol almost daily.

Magistrate Stewart Devine denied the boy bail and adjourned his case to be heard again in October.

One of the gangs the group allegedly forced the bloodied boy to denounce – KVT – is made up of Fijians and has ties to the Alameddine crime family, police said in court.

Another boy charged, 13, was also denied bail after the court heard he said “kiss my f****** shoes” before kicking the child who was cowering in his underwear.

That boy has also been suspended from school recently and consumes alcohol “daily”.

He too was denied bail by Magistrate Devine, who described the case as “disturbing”.
