Covid-19 Blacktown: Public health order breaches in western Sydney

Shopping for dumbbells, a late night party or driving across Sydney for no reasonable reason. These are some of the ridiculous reasons Blacktown residents have breached public health orders.

ADF deployment onto Sydney streets a threat to democracy and civil liberties

House parties, dumbbell shopping and late night adventuring are some of the reasons Blacktown residents have recently landed in hot water and been hit with a Covid-19 breach for flouting public health orders.

The list of breaches, which date back to the middle of July, comes as the army has joined forces with NSW Police to help enforce compliance of the lockdown rules.

On Wednesday, Covid compliance checks took place at Toongabbie, Glenwood and Minchinbury.

Below are some of the infringement notices and arrests police have made since the current lockdown came into force.

OAKHURST PARTY

Police attended a home on Unicombe Crescent, Oakhurst, following reports of a party on July 31.

Upon arrival, officers attached to Mt Druitt Police Area Command saw a group of men drinking inside a garage and asked them to produce identification, which they allegedly refused to do.

After informing the men of the possible Covid breach, the occupant – a man aged 44 – allegedly pushed an officer in the chest.

While trying to arrest him, four male visitors allegedly became violent and attempted to hinder police, with officers deploying OC spray.

All five men were eventually arrested and taken to Mt Druitt Police Station and charged with not complying with Covid-19 orders.

MT DRUITT MAN’S DUMBBELL ADVENTURE

A 25-year old man who worked in an aged care facility in southwestern Sydney had been informed he had tested positive to Covid-19 and was directed to stay at home.

On the 16th July officers discovered that the man had left his Mount Druitt home and travelled by car to buy dumbbell weights.

The man was issued with a $1000 fine for failing to comply with noticed direction.

BAULKHAM HILLS’ LATE NIGHT PARTY

At 12.15am on July 29 police were alerted to a party on Windsor Rd, Baulkham Hills. Seven people were found at the residence and each partygoer was issued a $1000 fine for breaching the Public Health Order.

BLACKTOWN MAN’S ROAD TRIP

A man from Blacktown was fined after travelling to Artarmon in recent weeks. Police said the 34 year old was spotted sitting on a bench on Hampden Rd just after midnight. When officers spoke to him, he didn’t provide a reasonable excuse for travelling outside the Blacktown area.
