Coronavirus numbers in Blacktown City are continuing to rise, with a local medical centre confirming two new cases this week.
Data from NSW Health has revealed that 30 people in the Blacktown Local Government Area have tested positive to the virus as of 8pm on March 25.
The source of infection for these cases has not been revealed.
The latest figures come after a Blacktown medical centre this week confirmed two of its patients had contracted the virus.
In a statement, Kildare Rd Medical Centre said the patients were tested late last week and returned positive tests on Tuesday.
“Both patients … have been diagnosed and managed through the rigorous screening process we use at our dedicated isolation unit that is located completely outside the practice,” the centre said.
“Neither one of these confirmed cases has been allowed entry into the practice at any time recently, as the health and wellbeing of all our patients is our highest priority.
“In both instances, the patients have been required to remain at home and minimise the spread of the virus while they recover.”
The practice has assured the community it is “well prepared” for the coronavirus outbreak and opened its dedicated isolation unit on Tuesday.
“The facility includes a triage area and four separate testing and isolation bays,” the centre said.
“Our set-up has been reviewed by infection management experts from Blacktown Hospital and by a World Health Organisation accredited international infection control specialist – they believe we are one of the best prepared GP practices in Australia.”
On Monday, NSW Health confirmed a resident at Quakers Hill Nursing Home had contracted the virus.
An Opal Aged Care spokesperson said the resident tested positive to the virus on Sunday afternoon and lockdown procedures were put in place immediately after the diagnosis.
The patient, whose age and gender are not known, was taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment.
The first known case in the region was a patient who attended a medical centre in Plumpton and tested positive on March 5.
The patient attended the Plumpton Medical Centre at Plumpton Marketplace and was directed to go home and self-isolate.
There are now 1219 cases of the virus in NSW. This figure includes an increase of 190 cases since Tuesday evening.
Twelve people have died across the country as a result of the pandemic, with the number of confirmed cases in NSW doubling in the last four days.
