Blacktown: NSW Food Authority names and shames food safety offenders

The NSW Food Authority has named and shamed the cafes, restaurants and takeaways to have breached food safety in the last six months. Offences include selling out-of-date food, poor hygiene and food contamination.

More than a dozen eateries across Blacktown City have been named and shamed in the NSW Food Authority’s latest list of breaches in the past six months.

Since June 2019, 14 businesses in the region have been slapped with fines totalling $13,640 for breaches concerning cleanliness, selling out-of-date food and failing to prevent contamination.

The NSW Food Authority’s Name and Shame register reveals 21 penalty notices were issued by Blacktown City Council to businesses in Blacktown, Mt Druitt and surrounding suburbs.

Among the worst offenders was Woodcroft Bakery in Woodcroft, which was hit with four penalties totalling $1540 for not providing accessible hand washing facilities

Popular chains Donut King and Oliver Brown were among the other outlets issued fines.

Oliver Brown at Mt Druitt Westfield copped a $880 fine for a handwashing facility breach while Donut King in Mt Druitt was ordered to pay $440 for not providing soap after a previous warning.

Bakery franchise Breadtop, in Blacktown, received $880 worth of fines for failing to maintain fixtures, fittings and equipment in working order and to the required standard of cleanliness.

Humza Market in Blacktown was hit with a $1320 fine for selling food past its use-by date.

Meanwhile, Prospect Chinese restaurant Jade 88 was fined a total of $880 for cleanliness breach, despite receiving prior warnings.

Blacktown Indian restaurant Radhe Chatpata received $1760 in fines for cleanliness and handwashing breaches.

The NSW Food Authority publishes a list of breaches of food safety laws in its Name and Shame Register, with businesses issued with a penalty notice listed on the register for 12 months.
