Blacktown locals honoured at 2019 Community Sports Awards

Three Blacktown locals are among the 29 community sports heroes who have been recognised at the 2019 Community Sports Awards.

Three Blacktown residents have been recognised for their service to local sport at the 2019 NSW Community Sports Awards.

Presented by Sport NSW, the Community Sports Awards aim to recognise the outstanding achievements and contributions made by individuals to community sport in NSW.

David Kidd (Kings Langley), Faye Lewis (Quakers Hill) and Jordyn Ashbi-Brigandi (Seven Hills) were among the 29 award winners honoured at this year’s ceremony, which was held at NSW Parliament House last week.

Mr Kidd received a Distinguished Long Service Award while Ms Lewis and Ms Ashbi-Brigandi took out Community Official of the Year and Young Official of the Year respectively.

Sport NSW Chairwoman Carolyn Campbell said each of the winners played a substantial sport in making NSW the “premier sports state in Australia.”

“Put simply, sport would not exist without them,” she said.

“Without these hardworking, selfless volunteers, tens of thousands of boys and girls, men and women, would not be able to enjoy the health, social and community benefits sport provides.

“Sport remains at the heart of communities across NSW and has the unique ability to bring people from different cultures and backgrounds together.”

The RunWest Fun Run was also honoured at the prestigious event, taking out the award for Community Event of the Year.
